Over the last few years, I’ve become aware of how lucky I am to have the things in my life. I’ve been able to stop working a conventional Job to stay home with my boys, and my husband’s exceptionally hard work as a doctor-in-training has finally paid off when he got his big boy job this past July.
One of the physical things I was lucky enough to receive for Christmas was a circular sock knitting machine. You may know that those contraptions don’t come cheap. I was interested in it partially because I really want a full sock drawer for myself and my husband, partially because I would love to make shop samples of my colorways (eventually I will vend some kind of yarny event!), and because I love giving handmade gifts – and who wouldn’t love handmade socks?
So with acquiring the knitting machine, my knitting for this year is focused around giving. Everyone is getting handmade socks. Maybe I feel like I don’t deserve to be so lucky and need to earn my (and my machine’s) keep, but whatever it is, I’m happy to be spreading the wealth of handmade knitwear.
